Self-Proclaimed Bitcoin Creator Craig Wright Drops Lawsuit Against BTC Developers

A computer scientist who claims to be the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin (BTC) is dropping his lawsuit against Bitcoin developers.

According to a new post by the Bitcoin Legal Defense Fund, Craig Wright, who for years proclaimed to be Satoshi Nakamoto, is dropping his case against the 12 Bitcoin developers and others he sued in the UK.

Last month, a judge ruled that there is overwhelming evidence that Wright is not actually Satoshi nor is he the author of the Bitcoin White Paper, the original thesis behind the digital asset, paving the way for Wright to drop his current lawsuit.

As stated by the Bitcoin Legal Defense Fund,

“Wright’s discontinuance brings an end to a nearly decade-long campaign of harassment and intimidation and marks a major win for the Bitcoin developers and open source software in general.

Wright’s discontinuance follows on the heels of the Bitcoin developer’s victory in a related lawsuit (“Identity Trial”) brought against Wright in the UK that sought to definitively prove that Wright is not Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin.”

Wright initially sued the BTC developers in 2021 through his trading firm, Tulip Trading.

The case questioning Wright’s identity was brought by the Cryptocurrency Open Patent Alliance (COPA), a nonprofit crypto advocacy group. COPA released a statement after the judge’s ruling saying that Wright can no longer bully the BTC community by claiming ownership over the crypto king.

As stated by COPA at the time,

“This decision is a win for developers, for the entire open source community, and for the truth. For over eight years, Dr. Wright and his financial backers have lied about his identity as Satoshi Nakamoto and used that lie to bully and intimidate developers in the Bitcoin community.

That ends today with the court’s ruling that Craig Wright is not Satoshi Nakamoto.”
