Google Ramps Up Crypto Integration and User Exposure to Bitcoin, Ether, Ripple, XRP, Litecoin, Cardano

Internet giant Google, which runs the world’s most widely used search engine across the internet with over 3.5 billion daily searches and more than 1.2 trillion searches per year, is methodically introducing more crypto elements to its ecosystem of tools.

Google Search

Google appears to be working on a new way to display more cryptocurrencies when users search for a specific coin, increasing exposure to the category at large. In the screen grab below, a search for “XRP” returns a full crypto display bar right below the search term and above the top news stories. Each graphic card on the bar displays a related search term for XRP including Ripple, Bitcoin, Litecoin, IOTA, Cardano, Stellar, Dogecoin and Ethereum.

The new interface appears to be in a test phase since current searches for XRP, Bitcoin, Ethereum or any of the leading cryptocurrencies return a standard page – minus the crypto search bar.

Google Currency Conversion Tool

Google has already integrated four cryptocurrencies into its currency conversion tool. It supports Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ether and Litecoin among numerous fiat currencies.

Google Keyboard Tool

In another new sign of crypto adoption and mainstream support, Google recently enabled the iconic Bitcoin symbol on the iOS keyboard.

Google BigQuery and Blockchains

Google has also been combining big data and search algorithms to crawl large blockchains such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, making the data publicly available.

The data can be used, for example, to make business decisions. In the case of Ethereum, it can synchronize the Ethereum blockchain to computers running Parity in Google Cloud and perform a daily extraction of data from the Ethereum blockchain including smart contract transactions.

According to a report by The Block, Allen Day, a senior developer advocate for Google Cloud, is currently working on a project called Blockchain ETL (extract, transform, load). Blockchain ETL allows searches of entire blockchains. In addition to Bitcoin and Ethereum, Day’s team is adding cryptocurrencies such as Litecoin, Zcash, Dash, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum Classic and Dogecoin to Google’s BigQuery.
