Exploring Web 3.0: A New Era of the Internet
HodlX Guest Post Submit Your Post
The internet has experienced many changes since its inception, beginning with Web 1.0, its most basic form. Web 1.0 was comprised of static internet pages that were purely informative. A more enhanced version of it popped up with the creation of Web 2.0, which backed interactive and dynamic internet pages. Social media sites, media sharing, lightweight collaboration, and several other things fall under Web 2.0. Nevertheless, the evolution of the internet did not stop there.
Further ahead, a total reinvention of Web 2.0 has been conceptualized and dubbed Web 3.0. In this article, we shall explore what Web 3.0 is, how it works, its basic features, and advantages.
What is Web 3.0?
Web 3.0 is a more intelligent, third-generation web. At the moment, we are experiencing a transition from Web 2.0 to Web 3.0. The third-generation internet will be accompanied by both front-end and back-end development changes.
There is no full recognized definition of what is Web 3.0. But, Web 3.0 is much bigger and better than Web 2.0. It will not just be intelligent but also self-sufficient with a seamless network management. A huge chunk of it will rely on artificial intelligence and other cutting-edge technologies, like blockchain.
Examples of How Web 3.0 Works
It is hard to illustrate how Web 3.0 functions without an example. Let us dive into a few use cases before we analyze its features.
The first case is Cyber, a distributed supercomputer for answers (a relevance machine) designed with the use of go-IPFS and cosmos-SDK. Cyber provides a protocol for verifiable communication between consensus machines of relevance. It is based on a simple concept of content defined information graphs, created by web3-agents through cyber links – a simple, yet a robust semantic foundation for building an analytical model of the universe.
Cyber facilitates programmable semantics. Currently, developers of various apps have a limited ability to explain to Google how to structure search results in a better way. The cyber method gives this power back to the developers. Developers can now target particular semantic cores and willingly index their innovations. Cyber enables even offline search. IPFS facilitates document retrieval minus an internet connection.
The second example of a decentralized project that will ride on Web 3.0 is Tachyon, a collaborative project between X-VPN and V Systems. Tachyon acknowledges that significant changes to the internet protocol are underway. They intend to replace the current VPN services with one that offers faster speeds, dependable security, flexibility, and privacy.
The third example is Substratum. Due to the need for privacy and neutrality, Substratum has encryptions that eradicate the power of internet service providers and government authorities. Lastly, Unstoppable Domains uses a unique approach to attain internet freedom, security, and privacy by providing a Domain Name System (DNS) on a decentralized network. This makes it impossible for entities to block or censor such domains.
Tech experts have labelled Web 3.0 as a data-driven and semantic web. A user will enter a question on the internet; it will comprehend the question and essentially respond to the needs of the user.
For instance, if someone does more searches related to Bitcoin mining, they will obtain more adverts related to crypto mining. Besides, when that user searches for potential returns of BTC mining, the search engine will retain the previous search and display the results combining “bitcoin mining and potential returns.”
Therefore, Web 3.0 will not just search for the matching keywords, but also carry out the context search based on a user’s behavior and preference.
Features of Web 3.0
A Semantic Web
A semantic web improves internet technologies to produce, share, and link content via search and analysis based on the capacity to comprehend the meaning of words, rather than on keywords or numbers.
Artificial Intelligence
A blend of artificial intelligence and natural language processing will make computers understand information like humans, providing faster and more related results.
3D Graphics
3D graphics such as museum guides, computer games, e-commerce, and geospatial contexts will be widely utilized in sites and services in Web 3.0.
Connectivity
Semantic metadata in Web 3.0 will significantly boost information connection, implying that user experience will attain a better level of connectivity that leverages all the existing information.
Ubiquity
Information will be available to several apps, and when a device is connected to the web, the services will be accessible everywhere.
Advantages of Web 3.0
Ownership of Information
Users will have complete ownership and control of their information and enjoy the security of encryption. Data will only be shared on permission or a case-by-case basis.
Access to Information
With the help of smartphones and cloud applications, Web 3.0 will enable people to access information from anywhere. It will expand this concept in ways that permit devices to gather user data and allow smartphones to access data on users’ machines.
Decentralization
Blockchain acts as trusted platforms where information is fully encrypted, and the rules are indestructible, eliminating third parties from the equation.
The Permission-less Blockchain
A user can generate an address and network with other blockchain users. Additionally, geographical, demographic, and sociological factors will be eliminated with the use of Web 3.0.
Censorship Resistance
Suspension of accounts and refutation of distributed services will be significantly minimized, and because there will be no central point of authority, service disruption will be a bare minimum.
Conclusion
There is a need for solutions, which will go beyond conventional methods to help internet users attain true freedom.
Web 3.0 is exciting and comes with numerous growth potentials. It is still at its infancy stage. While it is gradually growing, there is still a lot of research that must be done. It is undeniable that Web 3.0 is accompanied by multiple advantages that will bring a complete web experience beyond machines.
