Bakkt Updates Bitcoin Futures, Ripple Teases XRP Gaming, and Tron’s Token Sale Goes Nuts: Crypto News Roundup

Bitcoin

The crypto platform Bakkt is releasing new information on its Bitcoin futures product.

Intercontinental Exchange, the owner of Bakkt and the New York Stock Exchange, says the product name will be “Bakkt BTC (USD) Daily Future” and will trade from 8:00 a.m. EST to 6:00 p.m. EST. The price will be quoted in US dollars. The minimum price fluctuation will be $2.50 per coin, and the exchange fees will cost $0.50.

Bakkt has announced a series of delays as it works to gain approval from the US Commodities and Futures Trading Commission. According to the latest notice from ICE, Bakkt will offer an updated launch timeline in early 2019.

Ripple and XRP

Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse says a number of games are in development that will take advantage of XRP. During a panel at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Garlinghouse said gaming offers a great use case for blockchain.

“I think this is one area where maybe blockchain use is underhyped. I don’t talk that much about blockchain use in gaming. I think it’s incredibly interesting. In terms of which underlying blockchain is most efficient, that’s, I think, a question of speed and scale. I know there’s a couple being built on the XRP Ledger, and I think it’s going to be a very interesting space to watch in 2019.”

One such game that’s incorporating the XRP Ledger is BeachHead 2020. The game’s developers say they’re working to create an immersive virtual world that lets players trade in-game items using XRP.

Tron

Tron’s BitTorrent completed its token sale in a flash this morning. The ICO for BitTorrent Token (BTT) debuted on Binance Launchpad and completely sold out in about 14 minutes.

“In the BNB session, all 23.76 billion BTT were sold to token sale participants within 13 minutes and 25 seconds. Meanwhile, in the TRON session, all 35.64 billion BTT were sold within 14 minutes and 41 seconds.”

The token is designed to increase the speed and usability of BitTorrent. Tron purchased the file-sharing platform last year for $140 million, and plans to utilize the token to reward users who share and upload content.
